Coalition for Responsible Sex Ed is a coalition of educational, religious, health, social service and advocacy organizations, as well as concerned individuals that promotes lifelong healthy sexuality by advocating for policies on responsible sexuality education and access to confidential health care services.
"By funding comprehensive sexuality education, the REAL Act will give lawmakers the opportunity both to support programs that have been shown to work and to prove that science is truly back in the driver's seat."
-William Smith, Vice President for public policy at the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS).
Federal Update - Sex Ed is in the Mix
Senator Franken Co-Sponsors REAL Act
Senator Franken has recently signed on as a co-sponsor of the REAL (Real Education about Life) Act, S. 611 (Entire Bill Text (PDF) • Bill Status and Authors). The REAL Act will provide the first ever federal funding to support responsible, comprehensive sex education. Under the bill, sex education programs would be developmentally-appropriate, medically accurate and provide information about both contraception and when and why to wait.
Thank you Senator Franken and Minnesota House co-sponsors Congressman Ellison and Congresswoman McCollum for supporting this important legislation! Sex education helps young people make safe and healthy decisions. These programs provide information that Minnesota youth need to become responsible adults.
More than 147 national and state organizations, including the Coalition for Responsible Sex Ed, support the Responsible Education About Life (REAL) Act, including medical, civil rights, faith-based, family planning, educational, public health, reproductive rights and HIV and AIDS service organizations.
